A reminder is given of the meeting to be held in the Town Hall supper room at 8 o’clock tonight to make arrangements for the reception to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Mrs Coates. All interested are invited to attend.

Afforestation Conference Put Off. The conference of all local bodies and organisations throughout Northland convened by the North Auckland Sawmlllers’ Association, which was to have been held in Whangarei tomorrow, has been postponed for about a fortnight. The conference was to have discussed the reafforestation of the North, with particular reference to the effect in controlling flooding, and the reason of its postponement provided another strong argument for a movement towards the aims desired.

Farmers’ Union Meeting. The usual quarterly meeting of the Whangarei sub-provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union, set down for today, has been postponed on account of the floods, which would have prevented many members from attending.

Decline In Dairy Production. The output of Whangarei Dairy Co. last month was 402 tons, compared with 413 tons for January, 1935. For the present season to date the make has been 1797 tons, as against 1950 for the corresponding period of the previous season.

The Kaws v .ar/a Gap. The water was exceptionally high at Kawakawa yesterday, and many motorists engaged a local garage proprietor to carry their cars across the gap on a big lorry. By the afternoon. Mr J. Skow, Northern Patrol of the A.A., was able to tow or pilot many motorists through the flooded area, his services in this connection being greatly appreciated. Some motorists had been marooned at Kawakawa since Sunday.

A Visit to the Country. The prospects of a large attendance at the Hukerenui Show tomorrow appear bright. Entries are well up to expectations, which augurs well for an interesting exhibition. Visitors are reminded that an ample supply of refreshments can be obtained on the grounds and provision has been made for the distribution of hot water for those who wish to make the occasion a picnic holiday. 685
