Did You Know
The difference between hard and soft water? Before we answer that question, let us first make sure just what hard and soft waters really are. Hard water is that which has first passed through the earth and is obtained from the tap at home, while soft water is ordinary rain or distilled water. The diffei’ence between the two varieties is that the hard contains a large quantity of minerals and the soft water none. The minerals contained in the hard water are generally salts of lime which it picks up as it passes through the earth. Hard water —not too hard —is good to drink, but is of little use for washing purposes. The reason for this is that when soap is used with hard water a chemical change occurs. The resulting substance will not dissolve in water. On the other hand, when soap is mixed with soft water the substance produced will dissolve and a good lather is formed.
