CABBAGES AND KINGS.
Aponga R.D., Whangarei. Dear Kupe, I received the 10/- prize, and was delighted to get it. I kept 5/- for myself, and gave 5/- to mother for flowers. I bought tennis sox and handkerchiefs with one half-crown, but I’m not sure how I’ll spend the rest. It’s raining hard here now, and has been so since Sunday. We went to the beach oh Sunday, and when we started out it was quite sunny, but when we arrived out there we were very disappointed to find a drizzly rain had started, and it stayed like that all the time.
I have a pen friend in South Africa, who sent me a twig of a plant which is called “Resurrection plant.” When I received it. it was all dried up, but she said that if I put it in water for 12 hours it would come green’ again. Phis I did, and sure enough when I looked at it again it was bright green. Have you ever seen anything like it? We haven’t, and we thought it was great. Mother planted some in hopes that it would grow, but we don’t think it will; at least, it shows no signs of
progress at present. Do you think it will grow? I hope you had a happy Christmas, and will have a prosperous New Year. With best wishes to you all and for future success with the Kupe Club, from One of your maidens, • DOREEN HODGE. P.S. —Please thank the warriors and maidens who sent me their congratulations, and I hope they all win lots of prizes in our new club.-
