Several of the craft to break adrift completed their ruin when they drifted among the debris, which shattered against the Waitangi Bridge. Among the owners affected were: — Mrs Goffe (Waitangi), launch and boat-skid.
Mr Black (Paihia), launch and a punt.
Mr T. Cross.—Launch and a punt. Mr Davies (Paihia).—A barge and two dinghies. Mr C. Clarke (Paihia). —14ft yacht and punt. Mr W. Shore (Kaikohe).—Launch and dinghy. A large number of pulling boats belonging to absentee owners disappeared out to sea. Several unidentified boats, largely undamaged were washed ashore.
The only large craft to escape destruction on the Paihia side were Mr Brbberg’s 14-footer, the anchor of which caught in the rocks, and N. Berry’s Taunch, sheltered behind an island.
A poplar tree fell across the Paihia wharf; otherwise the watering place was undamaged.
