Harbour Launch Trips.
Harbour launch trips are proving very popular this year, and the Sunday launches leaving Rawene for Opononi and Omapere are usually crowded. An enterprising Omapere resident has opened a soft drink stall near the Omapere wharf, where it is possible to obtain hot water, or afternoon teas as required, thus affording picnickers generally an excellent service,' as teamaking is usually a problem when picnicking.
Electric Light.
After having to do without the electric light for some weeks, the townspeople are again benefiting by this convenience, the power being used for the first time on Wednesday night. Though the service is not a full time one, the engine being run only in the evenings, it is very much appreciated, and it is hoped that it will not be long before a full-time service is rendered. H.M.S. Leith. It is authoritatively stated that the arrival of the H.M.S. Leith at Rawene will take place five days later than was expected. Owing to the nation’s recent bereavement, the vessel’s itinerary has been altered, and she will not arrive at Rawene until Wednesday, February 5. The ship will be open to inspection by the general public on the afternoon of Thursday. February 6, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. On Saturday morning the Leith will proceed to Kohukohu, where the public is allowed to board her on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (the Bth and 9th respectively) between 2 and 5 p.m.
