UTUKURA
Miss Charlotte Muriwai has entered the Kaitaia hospital as a nurse. Miss Mura Joyce has attained a free place scholarship. A presentation of prizes was made by Sister Bott recently at the Maraeroa School. All the children present received a gift and a plentiful supply of sweets.
Tennis. —The Wairangi team played Utakura on a recent Saturday and met with defeat. Last Saturday a team from Otaua came, but unfortunately the rain marred further games. Women’s Institute.—At the last meeting of the local institute, the president, Mrs Nell Gilberd, presided. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent, and Miss Craig’s demonstrations of making an oiled epat was an outstanding item. The winners of the monthly competitions were Mrs H. Wiperi and Miss Craig. Mrs Gilberd sang and led the members in community singing.
