Mr and Mrs Lawrence Masters, of Pukepoto, are paying a short visit to Auckland. Mr Quinn is visiting Auckland. Mr Giff McKinnon has returned to Pukemiro after spending a fortnight’s holiday with his parents at Kaitaia. NORTHERN BOWLING The Hoklanga, Kaitaia and Kaikohe Bowling Clubs held the annual tournament in competition for the Buxton Shield at Rawene on Wednesday, the 29th, and Thursday, 30th inst. The weather on both days was excellent, and some forty players enjoyed good sport on a Splendid green. There were eight teams contesting, three from Kaikohe, two from Kaitaia, and three from Rawene, the teams having been divided into two sections with four teams in each section.

The results of the first day’s play are as follows: —

First Section.—Hokianga A, 1 win, 2 losses; Kaitaia A, 2; wins, 1 loss; Kaikohe A, 1 win, 2 losses; Kaikohe B, 2 wins, 1 loss. This was a tie between Kaikohe A and Kaikohe B.

Second Section.—Hokianga B, 2 wins, 1 loss; Hokianga C, 1 win, 2 losses; Kaitaia B, 3 losses; Kaikohe C, 3 wins. Kaikohe was declared the winner of the second section. The play-off of the finals on the second day resulted in a win- for Kaikohe B, to whom the shield was presented. The team members Messrs Jolly, King, Routly and Leigh—were each presented with a miniature cup to commemorate their success.
