DIFFICULT YEAR AHEAD
BAY OF ISLANDS COUNTY. CHAIRMAN’S OPINION. At the conclusion of last week’s meeting of the Bay of Islands County Council, and after the annual balancesheet had been adopted, the chairman, Mr H. T. Atkinson, spoke of the prospects for the coming financial year. “This is the beginning of the New Year,” said Mr Atkinson, “and I wish to thank the members of the council and the members of the staff for their fine services during the past year.” “We have an exceedingy difficult year ahead of us,” he continued. “As far as county work is concerned, things are not good. The roads in some parts of the county are going back. Heavy traffic, extra traffic and wet weather have all been responsible. There are two things which must be done in the county—restoring the foundations of the roads and replacing wooden bridges. They are both knotty problems.”
