BETTER EDUCATION
IMPORTANT BRITISH PROPOSALS IBritish Official Wireless.l RUGBY, January 7. Big administration changes are made necessary by the Government’s coming bill for the raising of the school leaving age to 15 years, and the improvement of the education services. It is announced they will include:— (1) The reorganisation of the elementary school to provide extra accommodation, to remedy defective premises and reduce the size of classes. (2) An increase of 300 to 360 in the number of State scholarships from secondary schools to the university and the increase in the value of each scholarship from £BO per annum to a figure not yet fixed. This will mean, on the basis of an average course of three years, that there will always be 1000 State-supported undergraduates at the ’varsity. (3) Better provision for technical and art education.
