AUSTRALIA BY AN INNINGS

VICTORY OVER EASTERN PRO VINCE SIDE (Received 1 p.m.) PORT ELIZABETH, January 8. The cricket match between Australia and Eastern Province was won by the visitors by an innings and 144 runs. On Tuesday the South Africans were dismissed in their first knock for 92, Australia replying with 4 for 189. Richardson (76) and Chipperfield (21) being not out. Today the weather was gloriously fine and the wicket perfect. A feature of the morning play was the dismissal of Richardson, who touched a fast ball from Davies, the diminutive wicketkeeper, Daly diving full length on the off to hold a brilliant onehanded catch. The Australian tail-enders made merry before the innings closed after 285 minutes.

Davies bowled excellently, his performance being seen by the selectors, and he is almost certain to be nominated for the next, test at Johannesburg on February I's. The South Africans’ second innings was just a procession after Bennett and Robson had appeared to master the opening attack. McCormick bowled with great pace and deserved his good figures. , t Scores;— EASTERN PROVINCE. First Innings 92 Second Innings.
