DARGAVILLE RACES

AVONDALE MEETING M'TAVISH’S HAT TRICK GAY BRONEY WINS CUP. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] AUCKLAND, This Day. Favourites won well at the opening day of the Dargaville Racing Club’s meeting held at Avondale yesterday. Tybalt, King’s Archer and King Tut, who were well supported, were all successful. Other winners also were popular selections. In the Dargaville Cup Gay Broney returned the best dividend. He was the third fancy on the straight-out machine and favoured in, the place betting. * There was a large crowd present, and the course was in excellent order. Some good times were registered. Gay Broney covered a mile and a quarter in 2.6, Croonin'g six furlongs in 1.12, and Gay Chief five furlongs in 1.0 4-3.

R. W. McTavish rode three winners in Tybalt, Gay Broney and Gay Chief. As he had only four rides, it was a most meritorious performance. The totalisator handled £10,232, compared with £3,420 on the first day last season, when the meeting was held at Dargaville in April. Results:—
