The British Government has'agreed to place the ship/ Discovery 11. at' the disposal of the Commonwealth Government for a search for Mr Lincoln Ellsworth and Mr Hollick Kenyon in the Antarctic. The offer is dependent upon a practicable scheme being devised for'the rescue expedition. A conference of leading officers of the Air Force and the Civil Aviation Branch is to be held immediately to determine the best type of aircraft to be shipped on the Discovery |I. It is intended to dispatch the vessel to the Bay of Whales, from which point reconnaissance flights will be laid to the point where Mr Ellsworths last radio signals were heard. Trubee Davison, president of the American Museum of Natural History, who ..has. planned a relief expedition with the'aid of Captain Stefansson. • ’ , Captain Frank Hawk’s all-metal Monoplane, a sister ship to Mr Ellsworth’s Polar Star, has been acquired and Mr Russell Thaw, pilot, and Mr William Kelenke, aeronautical engineer will attempt to fly to the Magallanes within six days. There the aeroplane will be loaded. The Wyatt Earp will be used as a depot for supplies or whatever purpose she may be needed. ; Mr Davison said the preparations were not based upon any definite belief that'Messrs Ellsworth and Kenyon wei-e in serious difficulties, but on a. wish to get a powerful aeroplane into action before the suitable flying weather in the Antarctic ends.
