Hay And Ensilage Cut. Although the season has been all against the farmer, large areas of hay and ensilage have been cut in the Ruatangata, Three Mile Bush and Ngararatunua districts. As could only be expected, many of the crops are on the light side, but on the flats and on well fertilised paddocks the yield of herbage has been very satisfactory. Farmers are exceptionally busy attending to this phase of their activities. .

Tennis Team, The following are the members of the Mairtown Tennis Club’s team to play the Whangarei Club tomorrow: Mrs Hoskin, Mrs Saul, Misses R. Tibbits K. Burch, I. Tucker, Mrs Morrison’ Messrs O. R. Morgan, R. Harris,’t. Hill, L. Simmons, E. Fairley, T. Wells. Important Dairy Conference. Representatives of all members of the North Auckland Dairy Conference are being called together for a most important meeting to discuss the proposed group marketing regulations which the New Zealand Produce Board intends to bring into effect next season. The conference will take place at Whangarei on Monday, December 16. In view .of the anticontrol movement, which has had its origin in the Waikato, the deliberations should be of particular interest.

Soccer in England. • . . ~ In an interview, Mr John Ashwell, of St. John’s Hill, who has just returned to Wanganui from a visit to England, Scotland and Wales, said he witnessed the match between Midland Counties and the All at try. Mr Ashwell commented on the lack of publicity in the London Press in regard to the All Blacks. Soccer was the dominating game and much space was devoted to its matches in the sports edition. Reports of the au Blacks’ matches were crowded into small spaces.

Taught The Parents. An interested spectator at the Parents’ Day at the Hora Hora School yesterday was Mr F. Higginson, a former headmaster. For 26 years he was a teacher at the school and taught many of the parents who were P r esem yesterday. It is now 13 years since Mr Higginson relinquished duties and he commented to an “Advocate’ reporter on the growth the school had iwaaie during those years. Mr B. R. Mffler, chairman of the school committee, in his opening remarks, and the Mayoi, Mr W. Jones, both referred to the services of Mr Higginson,

Town Wharf Conveniences. Committees from the Whangarei Borough Council and Harbour Board met yesterday to discuss the provision of conveniences at the Town Wharf; a matter which has been under contemplation for some considerable time. The- Harbour Board had previously agreed to contribute to the cost, but the original tender received, £ 372, was considered out of proportion to their ability to do so. Yesterday the tender was amended so that the expenditure was brought below £3OO, and in this form was accepted. The contractor, Mr A, Provan, commenced work on the John Street site this morning, and it is hoped to have work completed by Christmas, or at least in time for the greater part of the holiday boating season.
