COMMUNITY FAIR,

About £45 was raised for the Anglican and- Methodist Churches at a successful community fair held in Pye’s Hall, Kaeo, on Thursday. The -following amounts were raised at the various stalls: Fancy, £9 9/-; produce and flowers, £4 9/6; afternoon tea, £2 12/6; sweets and cakes, £5; surprise packets, £3; dips, £1 17/10; auction on cushion, 15/-. The evening’s programme consisted for the most part of competitions, the various winners of which were: Nail driving for men (prize, a pig), Mr W. Whitehead; nail driving for ladies (prize, a cushion), MrsT. Leslie; candle lighting for men (prize, a pig), Mr E. F. Connolly; candle lighting for ladies (prize, dress material), Mrs Jamieson; measuring distance, Mrs Johns; guessing doll’s name (“Patty”), Betty Bowyer; number of beans in bottle (prize, a supper cloth), correct number 351; Mr F. Hills (number guessed, 352). Number of tacks in bottle (prize, a nightgown), Mr Fleming; weight of cakes (No. 1), Mrs C. L. Lane; weight of cake (No, 2), Messrs. Buckley, Urlich and Roke; quoit-throwing, Mrs T. Leslie. With the £2l raised at Totara North, the churches in the circuit will share between them over £6O. Paddy’s Market. The Totara North cricket and tennis clubs combined in holding a very successful Paddy’s market at Totara on Saturday evening. The handsome prizes offered for the numerous competitions were well contested, and it was only when the function was closed at midnight that the competitions ceased. About £6O was raised, and this sum is to be divided between the two clubs. General. Thirteen pupils sat for their proficiency examination at the Kaeo School on Friday. Of these three were from Kaeo. five from Waiare. two from Omaunu, three from Whangaroa.
