BUSHMAN'S DEATH
STRUCK 3Y FALLING TREE SHOCKING INJURIES. INQUEST HELD. [Special to “Northern Advocate.”] TAIHAPE, This Day. An inquest was held into the death of Cyril Newman Moody, aged 38, a bushman, who was killed while bushfelling on Mr E. K, Laurie’s property at Koeke, near Taihape, at about 10 o’clock on Wednesday .morning. Deceased was one of a gang 'of four men. He was scarfing the tree, when another tree, a dead matai about 14 yards away, fell on him, pinning him to the ground. Moody was released as a result of his companions cutting through the tree, but he was so terribly injured that he died within a few minutes. The tree that caused Mr Moody’s death was behind the spot where he was working, and was partly obscured by other trees,. • Deceased apparently heard it falling, and turned He was on the point of running away from the danger, when he was struck down. Evidence was given by a . doctor that the deceased’s injuries included several fractured . ribs, which had penetrated the lungs. The coroner returned a verdict of accidental dcsth He added a rider to the effect that the deceased’s companions had done everything possible to assist him, and that they were in no way responsible for the fatality.
