RAN INTO STORM
“SMITHY” RETURNING TERRIBLE WEATHER ENCOUNTERED. AUSTRALIA FLIGHT HELD UP. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 24. After considerable anxiety, it was ascertained this morning that Sir Charles Kingsford Smith had landed at . Brindisi last night, and was awaiting mgre favourable weather Before continuing. Mr T. W. Graham, a friend of the airman said: “Smithy telephoned me from Brindisi last night. He spoke to my daughter, as I was at the theatre. He said the weather was terrible after leaving Marseilles, and, instead of continuing to Bagdad, he was obliged to return to Brindisi. Meeting with terrible weather after leaving Marseilles, a later message states, Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, upon landing at Brindisi, decided to return to London. He arrived at Marseilles at 2.40 p.m. on the return journey, and is expected to reach Croydon this evening.
