BUILDING ACTIVITY ADDITIONS TO GARAGE

The latest method, of construction has been adopted and the result, is a vast expanse of floor, with no pillars to cause obstruction when dealing with egrs. ...

The floor is of concrete, and round the walls are work benches, covered with galvanised iron for greater cleanliness. An interesting feature of the benches is that those working at them stand on a wooden floor, about three feet wide. Standing on concrete, especially in winter,. does not tend to comfort. ,

Electric lights are conveniently fitted, and can be adjusted at will to any part. New features are an electrical test bench and a special room for dealing with radiators. Another new installation is a hot water and steam ejector for the cleaning of greasy parts, which will eliminate the washing with kerosene.

Ample provision has been made for light and air, and there is a large entrance at the side of the building. It is interesting to note that the new Tapley brake testing machine, which has been adopted by the Auckland Transport Board, has been in use by the company for the>past 12 months. The machine is a simple piece of mechanism and can be attached to the step or dashboard. i BANK STREET STRUCTURE THREE-STOREY BLOCK. A new three-storey building is being erected on a site between the premises occupied by L. C. Tremb.ath, draper, and Rishworth and Harrison, solicitors. The building is being constructed with one storey facing Bank Street and two below the street level, opening on to the level ground behind. The Bank Street frontage will, be used as shops, and part will be occupied by. Mr Trembath, who will also occupy the second floor. The ground floor will be used as, a bakery. 'lt is expected that the work will be finished early in December. The filling-in of the gap in the buildings in Bank Street will be a great improvement to the appearance of the street.
