BURGLARS HAVE PARTY

WALLACE SUPPLIES’ STORE CIGARETTES AND EGG-PELTING LOSS AMOUNTS TO £2O. T>UHGLARS entertained themselves to ' a party at Wallace Supplies stores, Cameron Street, Whangarei, on Saturday evening. To give the masquerade effect they tried on a number of ladies’ hats, but the styles not being appropriate to their beauty threw the models back on the floor. They appropriated a blazer and .a’portmanteau from the drapery department, and then forced the double glass door into the, grocery shop. Here they helped themselves copiously to free cigarettes, and, as it was a party, disregarded the cheaper sorts and went for the really brands. t The suitcase which had come into their possession w&s crammed with tins of fifties and choice lines, amounting to a total value of about £2O. The visitors had gained entrance f?om the furniture department on the first floor of the building, where a door was forced, giving them clear entrance via a stairway, to the wellladen shelves. They chose to leave by different means. From the inside, the barred door to the storeroom, and the street door presented no difficulty. On their way out, the thieves played a final game, pelting each other with, eggs, and taking goods from one side of the shop to the opposite counter. The theft was discovered when the carrier, who visits the premises every Sunday morning to feed the cats, found the back door wide open. However, by then the mice had gone.
