MARERETU CHURCH
REMOVAL ACCOMPLISHED. It is 47 years since the Mareretu Methodist Church was erected, and through )the years it has been a centre of religious interest. Regular services have been held by the circuit ministers, and local preachers, and the anniversary gatherings were for many years. With the coming of the railway, however, the district centre gravitated to the lower end of Mareretu, and it became evident that it would be in the best interests of the church and community to find a new site for the building in the township area. A suitable site was donated by Mr Robert McCarroll, and voluntary labour and £4O in cash were contributed by the settlers, which enabled the building to be taken down by sections and re-erected on the new site. • A successful reopening function was held on Wednesday evening, when the Rev. Gordon Parker conducted the dedication service. Miss Ethel McCarroll presided at the organ. Following the service a social evening was held when Mrs Parker, and the Misses Jessie and Rachael Wilson, Winnie Birtles and Evelyn Fenwick contributed to the musical portion. Mr Alan Worthington submitted the treasurer’s statement, showing that there was a credit balance of £9 following the removal. Mr T. Wilson, circuit steward, on behalf of the circuit, congratulated the Mareretu people on the success ot the movement.
