AUSTRALIA AND IMMIGRANTS
A WORD OF WARNING. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 18. The “Manchester Guardian” expresses the opinion that while the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr J. A. Lyons, was in England, he may have hinted that Australia would take more immigrants if Britain would take more exports. The paper adds that if resumption of migration is contemplated. Governments must ensure proper equipment and suitable land. The fiasco of the Victorian settlers was too tragic to be easily forgotten.
