HAWKE’S BAY HUNT JAZZ KING WINS HURDLES. TROUVAILLE BEST MAIDEN. (Per Press Association. — Copyright.} HASTINGS, This Day. The annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club is being held today in overcast weather. The track is in good order, and there is a satisfactory attendance. Results: — Otane Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles, of 50 sovs; one mile and a half. —(2) Jazz King, 9.0, 1; (4) Cotsfield, 9.9, 2; (1) Lady Spy, 10.6, 3. Santoft was scratched. Won by four lengths; three lengths. Time —2.52. Okawa Maiden Handicap, of 40 sovs; special weights; five furlongs and a half. —(3) Trouvaille, 8.10, 1; (2) Hard Times, 8.10, 2; (1) Trackman, 8.10, 3. DULIEU RETURNING. • ISpecial to “Northet'n Advocate"i AUCKLAND, This Day. No. 2 grass was available for fast work at Ellerslie this morning, and there was much more doing than usual. The going was heavy and consequently no fast times were recorded. Courthaven strode over six' furlongs, averaging about 15sec to the furlong. Air Lassie ran home from the three furlong post in 45 sec. She did her work very easily. Kelly and Fleetwind, after running their first three furlongs in 43 4-ssec, completed six furlongs in 1.26 4-5. They were on the bit throughout, both hitting out with plenty of freedom. Gay Defence was going comfortably to record 56 2-ssec for half a mile. This hack is in first-i’ate condition to commence the new season.

Te Broney, and a sister to Gay Broney, got to the end of five furlongs in 1.11, tlie last half-mile taking 56 l-ssec. Te Broney is a stylish mover and could have done much better. Sir Romeo ran his first three furlongs in 40 2-ssec, and continued on to the six-furlong post, which he reached in 1.24 1-5.

Express completed three furlongs in 42 l-ssec, and Ruling King, carrying a welter weight, was timed to run his last half-mile in 58 2-ssec. Gold Rod and Court Armour were timed to run six furlongs in 1.25 3-5, finishing on terms, though Court Armour pleased the better. Val Spear an& Teddy Boy were not doing their best to traverse five furlongs in 1.9 2-5. Both thes£ horses are making good headway. Imamint came home from the threefurlong post in 40 Z-ssec. It was a useful effort and indicated that she is coming back to form. ' Aymon was doing better than Vera Acre at the end of half a mile, which occupied 53 4-ssec. Over three furlongs,- Red Flame registered 41sec, and was running on nicely ’at the finish. Kiltowyn after completing his first three furlongs in 39 3-ssec, was easing up at the end of six furlongs, fun in 1.22. This horse is in great heart. Baroscope and Charsong were sent over a round and after commencing slowly, completed the final six in L 23. and the final three in 43 l-ssec. Heatherland, Primak and . Vanners were in that order after sprinting three furlongs in 42sec, the first-named showing to advantage. Jewelled Girdle was worked over six furlongs, which he covered in 1.25 1-5. Catoma and Val Mint ran a similar distance in the same time. The Jumpers. Supreme Ruler and Chief Emerald were schooled over the pony hurdles, both shaping satisfactorily. Hawthorn was sent over three pony hurdles, displaying plenty of dash for a beginner. Parkhurst and Catoma were given a farther trial over the steeplechase fences on the flat. • Parkhurst impressed, but Catoma balked at the second fence of the double. He was tried over the stone wall later, and refusing to jump was not further persevered with. Returning Home. Private advice has been- received from Melbourne that the Auckland horseman, L. Dulieu, will arrive back in the Dominion on August 5. This will enable him to fulfil riding engagements at the Grand National meeting.
