THE BOYS' BRIGADE

WHANGAREI COMPANY The First Whangarei Company of the Boys’ Brigade held a very enjoyable social evening at the Whangarei Baptist Church. The outstanding event of the evening was a cinematograph film of the Boys’ Brigade Jubilee celebrations held in Glasgow in 1933. It was astonishing to see how impressive the celebrations were. Altogether 2500 boys were in camp, while on the Saturday 20,000 boys, conveyed to Glasgow by special trains, marched through the streets accompanied by their bands to the amphitheatre, where a grand review took place. His Ijloyal Highness Prince George inspected the boys and took the salute. The display was witnessed by a vast crowd of people! At the Sunday service the arena was again packed with a crowd of 130,000 people, while as many more, who had to be turned away from the gates, listened outside by the aid of amplifiers. Glasgow will never forget the stirring scenes witnessed there. A hearty vote of thanks was given to Mr. J. Tudehope in appreciation of the generous loan of his projector. The rest of the evening took the form of a social, and the games and competitions were greatly enjoyed by the large company present. Solos rendered by Miss Parkinson and Mrs Fry were very much appreciated. After supper the presentation, of badges and certificates was made to the boys as follows: Swimming Certificate. —Corp. L.
