LABOUR’S CAMPAIGN

THE MARSDEN SEAT. MR BARCLAY’S PRELIMINARY TOUR. “The political feeling is much more alive in the country dairying districts than in the towns,” said Mr J. G. Barclay, Labour candidate for the Marsden seat, who has almost completed a tour of the constituency. Mr Barclay says that he has formed strong committees at every centre, and that meetings have been largely attended. Last night he spoke to an audience of 60 at the Madeira Hall, giving a full explanation of Labour’s plan for a guaranteed price for dairy produce, the altered constitution of the Dairy Control Board, the position oC the Democrat Party, and Mr W. Goodfellow’s advocacy of transferring the Customs taxation to, the sales tax. To complete the preliminary campaign, Mr Barclay has still to address several meetings in the Whangarei district, and announces that he will commence the campaign proper in September.
