OTAIKA

PERSONAL. Miss Dorothy Sklenafs, ' of Honikiwi, Otorohanga, who has been visiting the North, spent a few days at Otaika Valley as the guest of Mrs W. Kerr. Basketball. As the basketball club’s playing field has been proved unsuitable, the Otaika Tennis Club was approached with a view of obtaining permission to use the tennis court for games. Permission being granted, the goal-posts have been moved to the new basketball court behind the hall. So far the basketball team has done nothing outstanding this season, although two keen contests have been enjoyed. Otaika’s scores to date are a win by default from Ngararatunua; a drawn

game, 22 all, with Bargain Store; and a loss in favour of City—Otaika 10, City 14. With the change over of the weekly-half-holiday, and subsequent playing of matches on Saturdays, an endeavour is being made to have two practice games during the week, namely on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, to try to improve the standard of play.
