LSpeciat to "Northern -Advocate.”! AUCKLAND, This Day.
The weather is fine and hot, and the wicket fast, for the English women’s cricket match against Auckland. The visitors batted first, M. Maclagan and E. Snowball immediately displaying stroke ability. The latter raised a cheer when she, swung N, Browne hard to leg for the first boundary. The fielding was capital, but runs came quickly, and Miss Snowball reached 20 with another boundary off a full toss. Fifty went up after 40 minutes, Miss Snowball continuing to find the fences. When N. Hickling, a break bowler, came on, Miss Maclagan twice straight drove her to the boundary, and overtook her partner, then in the 40’s.
Miss Maclagan sent the hundred up with a drive off Miss Browne, who had come on again. The century took only 70 minutes. Mainspring Gone. . The opening partnership was broken at 111, when the Auckland 1 wicketkeeper neatly caught Snowball, whose 48 included five boundaries. Browne had her revenge later, when she dived and brilliantly caught Maclagan almost off the end of her bat. The latter had watched the bowling well, and her fine innings of 76 included five boundaries. These dismissals gave the Aucklanders heart, and before lunch another four wickets had fallen. , Scores: — ENGLAND First Innings. Snowball, c Gavin, b Browne .. 48 Maclagan, c Browne, bE.
