ORURU AND PERIA

DISTRICT ACTIVITIES. Mr and Mrs Woodham and child, of Auckland, are visiting Mr and Mrs E. Taylor, Oruru. Mrs Woodham is Mr Taylor’s sister. Mrs Earle, of Auckland, is stopping with Mr and Mrs Ryan, of Peria.

The Rev. and Mrs F. Gardiner Brown, of Morrinsville, are the guests of Mrs J. Garton, Oruru. Mr A. Shepherd, headmaster. of the Te Awamutu High School, is the guest of his sister, Mrs John Garton, Kainamu, Oruru. Mr Jack Harrison, an employee of the Pakuranga Hunt Club Auckland, is the guest of Mrs H. Thomas, Peria.

Miss L. Garton, of Whangarei,. is at present holidaying with her parents at Kainamu, Oruru, and will return to Whangarei shortly. A dance promoted on behalf of the Oruru .School children's picnic fund was held in Carton’s Hall last week. The door takings amounted to £3 10/ while a donation made by Mr Garton, of the Oruru Talkies, from a special screening, netted, a further £1 2/. An iced cake, donated by Mr W. Thomas and won by Mr H. Sloane, of Whangarei, brought in a further 18/. These, items, together with free music supplied by the Red Pepper Dance Band, were responsible for the financial success of the entertainment. Mr W. Thomas was M.C.

Mr A. Carton, a member of the school committee, thanked all who had assisted with the entertainment, with especial thanks to the orchestra for free music and Mr W. Thomas M.C.
