BIG-SCALE CATERING
RAILWAYS IN BRITAIN. OUTLAY OF £16,000,000. SPEED AND COMFORT. (Received 9 a.m.) ‘ LONDON, December 27. Bi'itish railway companies are to spend £16,000,000 on developments in 1935. The Great Western Companywill build 95 locomotives, including 10 of the Castle type, similar to the Cheltenham flier, the world’s fastest steam train. Other companies are planning Diesel engines and streamlined cax’riages, conditional electrification of lines, improvement to stations, the provision of 13,530 passenger and goods vehicles to cope with the greater traffic demands following the revival in trade, and the extension of cheap ti’avel.
