Women's Institute Branch Meetings

Kaitaia : .The December meeting of the Kaitaia Institute was held in the Parish Hall, the president presiding over a good attendance. :.The Christmas novelty competition was won by Miss B. Archibald with l&iss F, Parker second. Mrs H, Dickey and Miss J. Johnston won the other competitions. v ■' The next meeting will be held on January 17. Opoukeno The Opoukeno Institute’s monthly meeting took the form of a Christmas party to entertain the children of the district. Mrs. Franklin acted Santa Claus and distributed toys, balloons and paper hats to each child. Games and musical items were enjoyed by all, young and old entering into the fun. Fancy dancing was given by Heather Marshall, Dawn Knock, June, Nancy and Maisie Gregory, Laurie and Joan King, June Paxman, Mary Kirkby, all pupils of Miss Warrington. Mr. Goodwin’s pupils sang songs and choruses. Cheers were given by the children for the Women’s Institute. Happy Valley At the monthly meeting of the Happy Valley Institute the motto was '‘Strength for today is all we need.” The roll call took the form of suggestions for the garden party in January. Bright ideas, such ‘as novelty races, folk dancing by school children, Aunt Sally and apple-on-a-string, were given. A pleasant day is anticipated. Delegates gave a talk on their impressions of the council meeting at Whangarei. The playette, “A Pair of Lunatics,” was presented.
