AUCKLAND RACES

il CRITERION TO BUNFIGHT m i ON PARADE SCORES. I SPRINT TO DIATOMOUS. [Special to “Northern Advocate.’"! | AUCKLAND. This Day. . || There were one or two outstanding || features on the second day of the |o Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeti ing which was held at Ellerslie yesterday. The smart filly, Gay Blonde, was H defeated narrowly in the King’s Plate I by Synagogue, who was purchased recently by Mr C. E. Robertson for a substantial amount. King March, notwithstanding the excellent race he ran I in the Auckland Cup, was allowed to go out at a false price in the Summer Cup, and he returned the largest dividend of the day. I* - * The totalisator rnvestments for the day amounted to £33,867 10/-, compared with £30,085 10/- on the corresponding day a year ago. For the fix'st 1 two days the turnover was £109,141 | 10/-, against £99,300 10/-, an increase g of £9,841 10/-. E I Events decided after going to press 1 i yesterday resulted: —

Criterion Handicap, of 300 sovs; two-year-olds; six furlongs.— (2) Bun Fight, 7.5 (W. Broughton), 1; (6) Gay Sheik, 8.11 (A. Tinker), 2; (5) Round Up, 3.2 (R. Reed), 3. Also started: (1) Galilee, (3) Triune and Velocipede (bracketed), (4) Penelope. Three-quarters of a length; half a head. Penelope was fourth. Time —1.13 1-5.

Waitemata Handicap, of 250 sovs; one mile and a quarter.—(3) On Parade, 7.2 i (O. Reed), 1; (6) Royal Appellant, 7.91 (L. Ellis), 2; (4) Maroha, 7.0£ (Clifford), 3. Also started: (1) Hunting Bag, (7) Royal Dash, (2) Spearcourt, (8) Sir Val, (5) Lionheart, (11) Roxy, (15) Chief Emerald, (.17) Glenhauno, (14) Royal Winton, (18) Volition*, (9) Gascelle, (10) Air Lassie. (12) Barograph, (13) Cornerman, (16) En Tour, A length; half a length. Royal Dash was fourth. Time—2.7 3-5,

Electric Handicap, of 400 sovs; six furlongs.—(l) Diatomous, 8.6 (R. Reed), 1; (7) Bx’itish Columbia, 7.12 (Tremaine), 2; (3) King Ford, 7.2 (Horn), 3. Also started: (2) Golden Wings, (4) Rei'eatu, (5) Cranford, (6) Wait and See, (9) Variant, (8) Hunting Jay, (10) Gaysome. A length and a half each way. Rereatu was fourth. Golden Wings and Hunting Jay were left at the post. Time —1.11 4-5.

Plunket Handicap, of 300 sovs; one mile.—(3) Cherry King, 7.7 (W. Broughton), 1; (1) Princess Doreen, 8.12 (A. Ellis), 2; (4) Lady Spy, 7.3 (Clifford), 3. Also started: (5) Persian, (6) King’s Archer, (10) Jalldy Karo, (8) Lagoon, (2) Sea Fox, (11) Princess Bede, (7) Final Shot, (9) Prolyxo. A length and a quarter; half a length. King’s Archer was fourth. Time—l. 37 4-5. Horses Destroyed. When Chromadyne fell in the Ponsonby Hui'dles at Ellerslie yesterday he sustained a fractui'ed bone in a shoulder, and had to be destroyed. Sir Val had his pelvis broken when another horse cannoned into him at the start of the Waitemata Handicap, and he also was destroyed. An Inquiry. The form displayed by Cherry King yesterday as compared with that on the first day of the meeting formed the subject of an inquiry by the chief stipendiary steward. Ultimately the club’s judicial committee announced that it had decided to take no action. The Summer Cup. A large field paraded for the Summer Cup, and when backers had finished investing Kiltowyn was favourite with £1035, next in demand being King’s Knave £920, and Solarium £507, while the winner, King March, carried £457. From an excellent despatch Southdown, Kiltowyn, Pomp and Hushing were most prominent, but along the back the order was Prince Colossus and Solarium together, Pomp, Kiltowyn, Cricket Bat, Southdown, King Musk, Hushing, Caliente, Royal Artist, Sporting Blood, Delrain, King’s Knave and King March. The two leaders were still in charge across the top, being attended by fbmp, Sporting Blood, Kiltowyn. Southdown. Cricket Bat and Hushing, and as they turned for home Prince Colossus was in front of Solarium, Cricket Bat, Pomp, Southdown and Kiltowyn, with King March moving up fast. Securing a run on the rails. King March came with a great rattle and got the decision over Solarium by a neck, with i Kiltowyn a similar distance away I third. Hushing was fourth, and then ! came Pomp, Prince Colossus, King | Musk, Royal Artist and Sporting Blood. The Open Sprint. Start Artist and Rerepai failed to keep their engagements in the Electric Handicap, and when the figures were adjusted most money was invested on i Diatomous £1245, Golden Wings £729, i and King Ford £486, while British i Columbia carried £3OO. Golden Wings ! and Hunting Jay were very fractious jat the start, and when the barrier jlifted they were completely left. King jFord led out from British Columbia, I Diatomous, Cranford and Gaysome. British Columbia was in charge as I they raced across the top, attended jby Diatomous, King Ford. Cranford, j Gaysome and Rereatu. There was no j change into the straight. Down the | straight Diatomous hit the front and i went on to win comfortably by a ] length and a half from British Colum- : bia, who boat King Ford by a similar ! distance. Rereatu was fourth, and j then came Gaysome, Cranford, Variant | and Wait and Sec,
