RIFLE SHOOTING
NORTH ISLAND MEETING TIE IN CHAMPIONSHIP EXCITING SHOOT-OFF [Per Press Association. — Copyright .] WANGANUI, This Day. An excellent finish was provided to the North Island rifle championship meeting at Putiki yesterday afternoon. F. J. Soler and A. Doidge tied for first place in the final shoot for the championship belt and then fired three extra shots to decide the match. They tied again, however, both men scoring 13 out of 15. It then remained for them to decide the championship by a close “shot for shot” competition. Both men scored bulls with their first, but Doidge “broke” with his second and Soler scored another bull, thereby winning the championship belt and cup.
Soler also won the Marybank aggregate. The Putiki aggregate was won by E. S. King, while V. D. Christian won the B grade challenge cup. Captain H. Simonds, of Auckland, won the Chronicle Cup for third place in the championship. The prizes were presented by Colonel J. Hughes at the conclusion of the meeting.
