FANCY DRESS BALL
WHANGAREI HEADS CHILDREN. To mark the close of the school year, a Christmas tree and dance took place in the Taurikura Hall on Wednesday. The children arrived in fancy and hard-up costumes. The judges, Mesdames Shinkwin, Dudley and King, selected the following winners:
Best girl’s fancy dress. —Doreen Humphries, Turkish lady. Best boy's fancy dress; Leslie Bird, Romeo. Best original boy: Cliff Harnett, blind man. Best original girl; Dorothy Harnett, The Heads School. Best Hard-up Boy; Frank Mcßae, hard-up “cocky.” Best hard-up girl: Alix McGregor, “spring cleaning.” Best pair: Avon and Rex Ryan: Mickey and Minnie.
Prizes were given to the three tiny tots, Josie Bird, Dorothy Robinson, and Josie Wright.
After dancing and games, Santa Claus presided over a well-decked tree, from which each child received a present. Santa also gave Mr and Mrs Kerr presents from the children.
Supper was provided by the ladies of the district, and Mr Bird donated a churn of ice cream for the children.
