A BOMBSHELL

PARUA BAY-PATAUA ROAD. CQUNTY COUNCIL CONTRIBUTION. Something in the nature of a bombshell was dropped by the Public Works Department when it requested a contribution of £9OO from the Whangarei County Council and the settlers concerned before proceeding with the metalling and formation of the Parua Bay-Pataua Road. The position was taken up by the County Council with Mr A. J. Murdoch, M.P., who replied that, provided the, settlers provided £3OO and the County Council £SO, the remainder of the estimated expenditure of £2500 would be made available and the work would be put in hand as relief work.

To this the council replied that it was prepared to find £SO, but owing to the low price of butterfat the settlers were quite unable to contribute. Mr Murdoch was asked to again take up the matter with the Minister.
