TOTAL EARNINGS INCREASE^
CANBERRA, November. 7.

It is stated in the annual report, bn Commonwealth Railways);; operations for the year ended June 30; 1934;"Presented to the House of Representatives today, that the loss on the North Australia railway was less than for the previous year, while on the; Federal Territory railway (Canberra to Queanbeyan) the earnings exceeded working expenses. The loss on .the Trans-Australian railway was greater. An improvement in the total earnings of the railways was reported, but the earnings; particularly-, those of the Trans-Australian railway, •it ■ was .stated, were still much lower than before the depression years. ' : : The report stated that the working expenses’ of the Commonwealth Railways in the year ended June 30, 1934, were £376,168, and the earnings £329,955, making ’a’ loss in working, excluding interest of £46,213. s IrTthe previous year the loss in working, excluding interest, was ’ £ 39,349. fThe. last four years had shown a very considerable improvement ; in the financial position of the railways, the loss for the year ended June 30 t 1930,; being £150,445 .......
