LYONS GOVERNMENT AGAIN
FEDERAL ELECTION OUTCOME
MAJORITY SLIGHTLY SMALLER
ANTI-LABOUR FORCES RULE
The Issue of the Federal general election in Australia, in connection with which the polling took place on Saturday, confirmed the Prime Minister’s prediction of his Government’s return to power, though it appears that the majority will be slightly smaller than previously.
The returns show that the forces in opposition to Labour have secured 48 seats as against 23 obtained by the latter, with three results still indecisive, and of these the Government expects to score -in one instance and thus secure half of the 74 seats in the House.
With 12 Country Party representatives so far returned, and the probability of that party joining hands with the Lyons group, a * solid phalanx will thus be presented against the Labourites.
' New South Wales gave the greatest support of any State to the Labour candidates, providing a very close race with the Federalites.
It is indicated in the returns that Mr Lyons and all his Ministers (with one dubious exception) have been re-elected.
The results of polling for Senate seals will not be known positively for a few days, but it is stated that promising progress is being made by candidates in the Government ranks.
