BUTTER TRADE OUTLOOK
SOMEWHAT BRIGHTER,
CHANCE IN SOUTH AFRICA
(United Press Association—By Electric
Telegraph.—Copyright A (Received 9 a.m.)
LONDON, September 15
The butter trade is still in the doldrums, but there are some signs that a slight improvement will possibly come before long. Stocks in cold store, although still very heavy, are beginning to decline, as the totals afloat from New Zealand, Australia and the Argentine also are falling off. There are prospects of an increase in the German quota in force for the remainder of the year, and this should mean smaller arrivals of Danish butter in London.
It is reported that South Africa is threatened with a butter famine, as the result of last year’s drought. This may mean that some butter will be shipped there from England, though New Zealand and Australian producers might well consider sending shipments to South Africa.
