: WEEK FINISHES STRONGLY. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland Stock Exchange finished up a busy week with an unusually big list of sales for a Saturday morning’s call. Bidding was brisk, and covered a wide range. Values generally were firm, an exception being found in Consolidated Brick, which failed to hold the gains made in ’ the last few weeks, and changed hands at 9/11. Government stocks were again in keen demand, and a buyer went to £llO 10/ to secure a parcel of 1955’5. In the banking section, Commercials slipped a little, with quotations at 17/3 and 17/7, but Nationals gained 2/ with a transaction at 76/. Farmers Auctioneering shares were bid for freely, and Farmers’ Trading moved up further, with the business in the ordinaries at 6/5.
Renown Collieries improved, and after a sale at 4/6 the market stood at 4/ to 5/6. Auckland Gas shares were firm, and the contributing issue, with a sale at 21/, touched a new high level. Amongst Australian securities, Colonial Sugars received special attention, with the market settling between £66 15/ and £67 12/6. In unlisted stocks, Woolworths Ltd. made further headway, with a reported sale at 75/ and one in the room at 76/6. In the mining division, a report of a reef struck by the Big River Gold Mines brought buyers in for the shares at 1/5, while sellers rose to 2/3. Sales recorded at the call National Bank, £3 16/; Bank of New Zealand, £2 8/ and £2 8/11; Queensland Insurance, £3 11/; Renown Collieries, 4/6; Auckland Gas contributing, £1 1/; Wellington Woollens, £5 8/9; Consolidated Brick, 9/11; Farmers’ Trading, 6/5; Waihi Mine, £1 12/6; Broken Hill Pty., £2 11/; Mt. Lyall, £1 0/2; Government stocks, 4 per cent, 1955, £llO 10/; Waitemata Coimty Council, 41 per cent, 1933-49, £lbs.
