WHANGAREI SWIMMING

CLUB S ANNUAL MEETING. SUCCESSFUL PAST SEASON. OFFICERS FOR THIS YEAR. The annual meeting of the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. There was a fair attendance. The balance sheet and report submitted by the president, Mr W. Jones, commented on the success of last season, when four carnivals were held, each proving a success financially. The standard of swimming showed a decided improvement on the previous season.

As the present stand was insufficient to accommodate attendances during carnivals, it had been decided to purchase the old Boxing Association’s stand, which would supply extra seating at the far end of the bath. The main stand had been repainted and overhauled.

Club nights were held every Tuesday, and these were responsible for maintaining the interest of the swimmers. Congratulations were extended to Miss B. Orr upon winning the 100 yards ladies’ championship, and to Mr W. Morris, the senior champion. Thanks and appreciation were extended to the Ladies’ Club for its cooperation and assistance, and also to the donors of cups and to others who had helped the club. The balance sheet showed a surplus for the past season of £lO 19/3. The following officers were elected.—
