iSir James Parr, and Professor Elder, of Otago University, Editor of (1 Marsel on Papers,” represented Now Zealand at the unveiling of the'monument to Samuel Marsdon on the 170th anniversary of his birth, in the picturesque village of Carsley, near Leeds. The monument stands near Marsden’s birthplace and on the site of "a warehouse Avhcrc was stored the first con- ' signment of Australian wool brought over by Marsdon to Yorkshire for experimental purposes. ,
'Sir James Parr also laid the founda-, ' lion stone- of a group of six Marsdon Memorial cottages for aged and indigent employees, of the wool industry. He paid a tribute to Samuel Mara-' den’s life and work in Australia and New Zealand as missionary and practical pioneer. His zeal, faith and courage were ; responsible for the rapid conversion of the Maoris. Samuel Marsden’s name, he said, was highlyrevered in New Zealand.
