The above three Plough Shares were put on a 3-furrow Oliver Plough. “A” was an old share repointed with cast iron. “B” was a new cast iron s h 3 r© • “C” was an old share_ repointed with Stellite, “C” was put on the first furrow. “A” next and “B” last. All farmers will agree that "C" had more work to do than the others, especially if “C" stayed sharp while “A” and “B" lost their points. All started off together, and, first of all, ploughed 6 acres of shingle land. “A” was removed at the end of 20 acres unfit for further service. . “B” was removed at the end of 24 acres for repointing. “C” was still going at the end of ploughing. It had done 48 acres and the point showed practically no signs of wear. Another example is the case of 3 Stellited steel shares used in pumice country. They ploughed 20 acres as against 4 acres for plain steel shares. The Stellite was still intact and the throe shares were put into their original condition ready for another long run for the cost of one new steel share.
