AMUSEMENTS

REGENT THEATRE. MURDER. IN TRINIDAD. The ‘ title seems inappropriate a.t first, but when you have seen the picture the thrills are more in the mystery than in the actual crime, and brains will be working- overtime trying ■to solve the mystery which for a longtime baffled Nigel Bruce, who, as a Scotland Yard detective, is called in to Port of .Spain, in the West Indies, tu attempt to stop the flood of diamonds’which are pouring into Trinidad from Brazil. How the detectives work to break down the criminals, the hair-breadth escapes in actual West India territory, would rob patrons of the thrills and interest of trying to work, out the solution. Thrilling and absorbing, this picture takes yon through a maze of romance, and mystery drama into the vast swamp of Caroni, in the very heart of Trinidad. Sterling performances are given by Nigel Bruce as the detective, and clever and pretty Heather Angel as an abducted heroine, who, kept prisoner as a hostage, creates the romance with Douglas Walton, a refreshingly manly hero-lover. The scenery is beaut.it'ul, carrying one as it does into a region few people visit. The featurettes are exceedingly good, keeping up well the run of excellent .Shorts seen at this theatre- the last few weeks. Cartoon of Venice and the charm of Bengal’s capital, Calcutta and the world’s news-reels make up a programme equal to the best. I

Tonight and Monday will .bo the last two screenings, as It must give way to the ‘'Son -of Kong,” a. worthy .successor to the famous ‘‘King Kong.”
