COTTER GUILTY
UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE, "REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. (Special to “Northern Advoca'e.'M AUCKLAND, This Day. Two charges of unlawful carnal knowledge of a. girl U years of age were preferred against William Edward Cotter, taxi driver, aged 20 (Mr Trimmer), before Air Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court yesterday. The offences were alleged to have taken place at Whangarei on February 7 and April 24, and there were alternative charges of indecent assault. The prosecution was conducted by Mr Meredith, Crown Prosecutor, who said there was substantial corroboration of the girl’s story. After a. retirement of 2-J hours the Jury found accused guilty on the first count, with a strong recommendation to mercy. His Honour remanded accused for sentence, saying he would give heed to the jury’s recommendations.
