ABE MITCHELL’S STAMINA. JOINT LEADER IN TOURNEY. (Received noon). - LONDON, May L In the Dunlop professional golf tournaments, 110 players with scores of In 3 and under qualified for the competition proper over 72 holes. The leaders are:—Mitchell, E'. Whitcombe, 137; R. Whiteombe, Crompton, 139; Tadghan, Allis, 141; King, 142; Perry, C. Whiteombe, 143; Easterbrook, Havers 144; Lacey, Cotton 14;j. Among the others Ray is 147, Denny and Hodson 148, Dailey and Davies (last year’s winner) 149; Duncan 151, and Seymour 153. A feature of today’s play was Mitchell, who, at the age of 48 years, did rounds of 72 and 0(i, to share the leading place of the qualifiers. Mitchell has had a wonderful season to date, and critics are of opinion that since he returned to hickory shafts he hits the ball more, accurately than ever. Mr Bernard Darwin, golf correspondent of “The Times,” has been appointed captain of the Royal and Ancient Club.
