ALL-WEATHER ROAD
It is a matter for gratification that an all-weather East Coast highway may now be regarded as a definite achievement in the not distant future. The Public Works Department has decided to make £BOO available for the metalling of the short length of clay road between Mangawai and Waipu, which, so far, has been the only hindrance to all-weather traffic on this route. The. announcement of the department’s decision will be welcomed; for the provision of alternative' highways to those who wish to travel north or south is an important matter. The road will, give assured access and egress all the year round to settlers in a largo and.fertile area. It will also induce tourists to come North, for it is generally admitted that the scenic beauty, .especially of seascape. unfolded by this highway, is of an alluring nature. For this reason alone the completion of the road has been much desired.
