The raising of the enfbargo on stock from Britain was discussed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Agi icultural and Pastoral Association last evening, and a resolution was carried to the effect that the incoming committee consider the lifting cf the ban on British livestock. All speakers except one favoured removal of the embargo. They emphasised that there had been deterioration of cattle because of lack of new blood. Speakers considered that present precautions against foot-and-mouth disease were adequate. The Corriedale Sheep Society, at its annual meeting last evening, decided, on the other hand, to oppose the introduction of sheep to New Zealand from England or from any other country infected with fret-and mouth disease. The motion, proposing that the society support the Ryeland Sheep Society’s proposal to allow one shipment of stud stock from England each yehr, was lost by twelve votes to nine.
