LOOKED LIKE A SEAL
VISITOR TO MOERAKI (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) DUNEDIN, This Day. An unusual spectacle was witnessed by residents of Moeraki when a sea elephant, or elephant seal, which had been inhabiting the bay for the past weelc, came ashore for a few hours. The animal was of huge size approaching 20 feet in length, with a body about 10 feet long, similar to 1 hat. of a hippopotamus, while the rest of It tapered nil in a tin-like tail, ending in about eight huge dippers. The monster used powerful shoulder dippers to assist its approach to the beach and for dusting his titanic, body with sand. A curious bladder-like formation appeared upon the nose and hung loose a.nd limp at first, but afterwards was indated and gave the appearance of a soak The whole appearance of the creature was grotesque. After returning to the water the elephant seal still remained in the locality.
