DELEGATION PROPOSAL
BOARD MEETS MINISTERS. NOTHING DEFINITE LIKELY. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Dairy Export Board met members of the Government today to discuss the proposal adopted at the recent conference of dairying interests, that a delegation should be sent to England to make friendly contact with the farmers and to discuss mutual problems in respect of price-raising. It is not expected that there will be any definite arrangement at present, as the plan docs not appear to be favourably viewed even in Governmental or Dairy Board circles. Such a delegation would need to carry with it seme definite plans for, improvement of the industry, and these have not been evolved... It is also thought that discussions with British farmers would not be fruitful of results, in a highly competitive over-supplied market, and in view of New Zealand’s firm determination to maintain the volume of its dairy exports and risk the results. What may happen when the Ottawa agreement ends nearly 18 months i hence is a matter giving concern, and if a delegation went from New Zealand it would need to include a member of the Cabinet, as discussions would have to take place with British Ministers regarding the possibility of extending the agreement. The British Government’s recent subsidy decision, covering the next two years, indicates its settled policy for.dhat ;period, and' ?. u gg ps ts Ujat'. tho. iirclusipn-of.irrespon-sible member of the; Government in any delegation which visited England at present would not be likely to achieve any variation in policy, or any commitment, on the part of the British authorities regarding developments after August, 103").
