Tho winner’s time was I2soc against good competition.- Mr O’Carroll remarked, when presenting the cup ‘(with miniature) to Mr Ormandy at the dance after the sports, that the fact that the winner had competed with success several years ago at the local snorts and was still able to score such a notable victory was very creditable indeed. Air Ormandy was a close runner-up to the winner, A. H. Griffiths, in the 100yds Handicap. Chopping. Air C. Dwyer continues to secure places at each sport meeting ho attends. On Saturday last he won the 12-inch and 14-hich standing chops, and secured second place in the 14inch underhand at Pahi. King) presented his report . of the. year’s activities, which - reads as follows: —"As -chairman of your committee, it give me great pleasure to present- the first- annual report of the Mangapai Social Club. "Never before in the history of

Ataugapai has anything been launched which has proved so successful. The club has been of immense value in bringing together the people of the district for social intercourse. The interchange of visits from other centres has brought the members into touch with people whom they would otherwise, perhaps, never have mot. The cluli was darted on a wave of enthusiasm, which was maintained throughout the season, this being accomplished by the loyal sepport of all the members. The club has been-fho admiration and envy of Whangarei and surrounding districts; in fact, tho remarks made to me personally (twenty odd miles north of Whangarei) prove this. The president of tho Whangarei Social Club stated that it was the best club he had seen. “Imitation is the’sincerest form ■ of flattery, and other clubs have adopted several of our rules and ideas. "The dances promoted by the club were well supported, especially the night we made the big "splash," everybody enjoying themselves thoroughly. “The bridge jdayers met Tauraroa' on four occasions, and, although Tauraroa claim that ‘they got away with-the bacon,’ I am sure we managed to cut off a good piece, Mata were twice entertained at bridge at . Alangapai. Though they met with a chilly reception by the clerk of the weather, they were warmed . by the -celebrated Mangapai cup of tea and our ladies provided a sumptuous supper. The return visit was held at Mr and'Mrs .Tim Sloane’s residence, «uul we-spent a glorious evening there. ‘■‘Your committee have mot on five occasions and have been most enthusiastic in endeavouring to advance ideas and suggestions to promote the welfare of the club. "While it is difficult to single out any one member of the committee, special mention should be made of the .work done by Mrs Eain Finlayson and our secretary, Mr Frank Carter. "We have exchanged visits with Whangarei five times, and 'although they proved a little superior in table tenuis, our bridge players well held their own, 'The ladies met the VAV.C.A. and proved to satisfaction of all that they. were a little better at table -tennis. “The membership stands at fid. Four members were lost when 'Mr-and’.Mrs P. Walker, left the district. "The entries for table tennis-handi-caps were numerous—the championship also being keenly contested. The winners of the championships, were- — Ladies: Mrs 8. Ormaudy. Gentlemen: Mr A. Lyles. Each was ' presented with a miniature cup. Over 40 .prizes were distributed, only two'members winning more than two prizes, these being Mrs A, Hayward and - Mr'A, Bylce,”' '
