METHODIST CHURCH

HARVEST FESTIVAL. Eminently successful hai vest festival services were held in the AVhaugarei Methodist Church last Sunday. Flowers, fruits, and produce of ileio and garden were tastefully displaced, and splendid congregations assembl'd. The hearty harvest hymns and anthems, as well as ducts by the Misses Crawford, made the musical portion of the worship effective. Apropriate messages to children and adults were delivered by the Rev. E. E. Sage. Special thankofferings were received. The attendance was again excellent at: the harvest home social in the schoolroom on Monday night. The proceedings opened with the singing of “Come ye thankful people, come,” and a prayer of thanksgiving Ity the Rev. K. R Sage. The following items comprised a. much appreciated programme: —Pianoforte solo, “Abbey Chimes,” Mr N. Hills; songs, “Dana” and “I Heard You Singing,” Air \Y. L, AleCvor; duet, “Break Thou the Broad of Life,” Misses Crawford; recitations, “A Ausit to the Dentist,” and “Royal Hearts,” Aliss C. Hill; songs, “The Harvester’s Night Song” and “The

Star,” Mrs Le Pine. An appropriate playette, “The Harvest Queen,” was effectively staged, representing flowers, fruit and cereals, paying tribute to their queen. The following were the characters: Miss M. McPeo. (Queen), Ada Hills (wheat), Zoo Moore (oats), Gay Baker (maize), Betty Anderson (rye), Vera Hirons ivino), Flora Thomas (barley), Lena Calvert (pear), Selma England (apple), Jean 'Warne and Joy Sago (flowers). Mr G. Elliott made an efficient auctioneer, and the harvest gifts were disposed of to the accompaniment of much merriment. A. comprehensive vote of thanks to all who had assisted, was carried by acclamation. The Doxology was heartily sung. Mr Sage announced that several more thankoffering envelopes were expected, and that the final proceeds promised to be very satisfactory.
