ITALIANS IN QUEENSLAND MURDER AND MAIMING. “BLACK HAND” ENACTIONS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) BRISBANE, March 20. The existence of a “Black Hand” Society among the Italian community on the sugarcane fields in Northern Queensland Avas revealed in the course of the trial of Giuseppe Bniti and Guisoppo Paoisi, on charges of Avounding Giovanni Taconi with intent to disfigure him. lacoui has been committed for trial on a charge of having murdered a follow countryman, Nicola Nammomo, at Innisfail. He is permanently disfigured, having lost both his ears. In the course of his evidence lacoui said he had received several letters, signed “Black Hand,” in which money Avas demanded from him. The demands Avere accompanied by menaces of violence if they were not complied Avith. He produced the letters, in Avhich some of his friends Avorc threatened Avith the loss of their sugarcane crops by fire if ho failed to influence them to send money by a messenger especially nominated.
