A FIRST LETTER

WHAT A READER THINKS. Mangapai, 4th 1934. Dear Kupe: As this is the first tiim* that 1 have written to you or entered the competitions in “The Young Northlander,” my name will he unfamiliar to you. I would have entered for some of the competitions, if we had received the “Advocate” earlier,, for 1 think our page is a very good idea and should be kept going. Apart from tlie enjoyment it gives to many girls and boys, it encourages them to try their hands at many things that they : might think they simply could not do. I hope it will always be a success. We have one young cow here that is quite a, pet. In the mornings andat night, when I take the cows away, she always follows me, and if 1 happen to stop I receive, a very “gentle” tap from her horn. When she came in first it delighted her to drink the milk from the buckets. Animals arc such pets, aren’t they? But one cannot take a cow inside, neither is a eat much of a companion outside in the paddocks. I would much rather have a dog’, though, for an all-round companion, -wouldn’t you ? Hoping that my first- effort will be favourably 'received. Yours faithfully, MAVIS" MONK.
